Ice Cube - "It Was A Good Day"

I think that 1993, the summer between sixth and seventh grade, was the first time that I really watched MTV. This was back when they actually showed music videos, and they showed them pretty much the entire time. Shows like "The Real World" had just started (I think that was in 1990 or 1991?), and I discovered this world of cool stuff. Around this time was when I really started getting into music, which is critical as I now always see music as being a literal soundtrack to my life, as indicated by my little slice of The Internets. This song just seemed awesome, like it would be perfect for driving around in the summer (once I had a license, or access to a car, or had friends with cars).

This time was a pretty critical one in my life, as the sixth/seventh grade years were, in my opinion, the point at which my true personality really started developing, and also when I really started struggling with who I was/am, how this did or didn't fit into my or my parents' image of who I should be, and when I really think my emotional/psychological problems really started to manifest themselves. Also, the idea of serious relationships totally blew my mind. You could not pay me enough to go back to middle school again. What a terrible time of life.

(Props to KEXP for playing this song just out of the blue today!)
